Greetings! My husband and I are expats living in Dolany u Olomouc. Except for visiting associates from his company, we are not aware of other Americans who live in the area. Prior to this assignment, we lived in China and were members of a very active Expat group. Does anyone know of an organized group in Olomouc? If none exists, are there English speaking expats interested in organizing one?

My wife and I are in a similar situation about one hour by car from you in Vsetin. I don't know of any organized groups except www.big-brno.cz. Please send me e-mail if we can be of any help.

Thank you for responding to my inquiry. We were not aware of the Brno group. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you plan to be in our area. We learned, this week, that three more Expat couples will be moving to the Olomouc area within the next four/five months. The numbers are increasing!

I have tried to find out how to change the settings on this group to send you a private message with contact details but have been unsuccessful. Post another message if you wish to meet my wife and |I sometime.

I am looking at a possibility to be an expat in Brno or Prague. Can you give me any ideas what a typical expat package may include?

Ahoij,
I am also in Vsetin since ca. 2 years. Probably, we already met here? What is your name?
It would be nice to meet some new faces and to see what other foreigners (I am from Germany)are doing in Vsetin.
Would be nice hearing from you!

i am just wrapping up 3 years in the r.expat communities,? i live in the jeseniky mountains and there is only one other american here, although we are in OLOUMOC KRAJ.(JESENIKY) I STEERED CLEAR OF EXPAT COMMUNITIES BECAUSE I WAS DETRMINED TO ABSORB THE CULTURE AND LANGUAGE, SO I HIT THE GROUND RUNNING. THERE ARE ENGLISH SPEAKING PEOPLE IN THE CZ. THE YOUNG PEOPLE STUDY IT IN SCHOOL, THE OLDER ONES, WELL IT WAS FORBIDDEN TILL AFTER THE VELVET REVOLUTION.BEST BET WOULD BE TO HIT THE PUBS OR PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION AND ASK QUESTIONS, I FOUND OUT MORE THIS WAY. TROUBLE THERE IS MOST STUDENTS GO TO OTHER COUNTRIES TO WORK, for the summer.MOSTLY ENGLAND, SO ENGLISH IS THERE, NOT TO WORRY.EXPAT COMMUNITIES I DON'T KNOW. ALSO I MEET PEOPLE WHO SPOKE ENGLISH DURING THE SNOW SEASON ON THE SLOPES...........DO YOU KNOW ANY CZECH?HOW TO ASk IF ANYONE SPEAKS ENGLISH? THESE PEOPLE ARE VERY INTELLIGENT BUT SHY TO SPEAK english BECAUSE THEY THINK THEIR ENGLISH ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH,YOU SHOULD HERE SOME FROM WHERE I LIVED, IN FLORIDA AND ALABAMA,MICHIGAN,TENNESSEE.YOU HAVE TO PROD IT OUT.BUT ONCE YOU GET THEM GOING.............. ENGLISH IS THERE, THEY USE IT AT THE TRAIN STATION, THERE,WHICH ISN'T THE CASE ALL OVER THE COUNTRY. HIT THE PUBS, AND LOOK FOR SOME YOUNGER PEOPLE,THEY STUDY IT ALSO BECAUSE WITH THE EU IT WILL HELP THEM. I KNOW THE FEELING, TILL I GOT A GRIP ON SOME OF THE LANGUAGE IT WAS HARD. GET BACK TO ME IF YOU LIKE IVAN TAYLOR brnoman@yahoo.com jesenikman@fastmail.fm

I have just arrived in Brno, CZ - this is my second day. I will be living and working in Brno, CZ for at least two years - hopefully for a longtime. My name is Tom Ulcak and it would be nice to hook up with some others experiencing the same great adventure. I have no phone number as of yet. I just moved from San Marcos, TX where I stayed six months visiting my folks - before that eight years in Seattle, WA. I am a military brat, so I am originally from everywhere.

tulcak, was just wondering how it's going for you in cz? I'm an american who has just moved to berlin, but cz is easily my second choice. Seems a bit daring, but could be worth it.
I'd be most interested in olomouc or c.krumlov. I think that once I get settled here in Berlin I will "disappear' for a month or two into cz to investigate. i work through the internet so i can take my work with me... anyway, let me know how it's going
any other americans living in cz, would love to hear your stories as well.

Hi Tom. Sheila here. I live in England and my american boyfriend and i are seriously considering relocating in CR in Feb 2008. Am so glad to make contact with u on the expat sight and i'll tell you why. Im in the UK on an EU (Irish) passport. What im keen to find out is how he gets over to czech from the UK. He is in the UK on wots called an "indefinite leave to remain" visa. So I hope you can tell me a little about how a US national re-settles in the CR.
