" Hi Everyone: About a month ago I recall reading a message about translating Danish into English by scanning a document into your computer. Did I imagine (or dream) this. It sounds too good to be true - but I would love to be able to actually read my own mail!!! This is one hurdle I didn''t think about ahead of time. Any help or information you may have would be appreciated. Thanks, Denise in Denmark "

Translation website To all the expats in Denmark.... Firstly isn''t Danish a tough language to learn! However this is the translation website I use and most of the time its very helpful http://members.tripod.com/~overseas_1/translate.html I actually found the address on the Expat forum! There is a pop up screen which I find annoying however its worth battling with it for the benefits of the translation. It can translate web pages or text you type in. Sometimes the translations are a bit wierd but it can give you a good general gist. There a couple of English-Danish and Danish -English dictonaries on line and I will post the addresses for these later when I lay my hands on them again (I''ve filed them somewhere safely!). Denise - how are you finding settling into Denmark? Good luck Natalie

" Natalie, I am an american (mom was dansk) and I really want to emigrate to dk. I was wondering if through your experience you have any tips for me to get a job. I am 43, have a Master''s of Public Health and a decent resume - would it be better to come over and look for a job or should I keep plugging along here trying to get one. I have registered with an international recruiter etc.and nothing has happened. I really don''t care what kind of job I get at first because I see the first 2 years as learning the language etc. Anyway, I would appreciate any strategies you might offer. I have many places to stay, so that is not a problem-I just don''t want to leave here without a job. I have also contacted the Danish Embassy and they assured me because of my mom that work papers etc. would not be a problem. Thanks alot, Janet "

" Janet, I would dearly love to be able to help you in your quest to move to Denmark... However I''m about the worst person to ask - I''ve HATED my time over here and actually will be leaving in less than 3 weeks! However just a couple of ideas that may help you... Where are you ideally planning on living, you have most chance of finding a job in Copenhagen, Odense or Aarhus and all these places have networks of english speaking people. We ended up living in a small danish town being the only native english speakers for miles around. Danish people tend on the whole not be very welcoming (or at least in this part of the country) so we have been really isolated, if you have family around I''m sure they will be friendly but don''t count on being welcomed into peoples hearts and homes. We had HUGE problems with paperwork, I would double and triple check on your work papers. In my experience it seems everyone gives you a different answer at the embassy so its worth giving them a quick call again. Be warned it is an expensive country to live in and the tax rate is about 50%. If you have a grasp of the language you should be able to find a job in a big city but it might not be a career step. Let me know if I can help in any other ways - good luck! Natalie "
