" Yes, it''s been a problem for almost every American I''ve met who moved here with a Danish wife. Probably your wife was dependant on you in the US to a degree you didn''t understand and this hid her basic Danish traits. Now the tables are turned. I don''t want to generalize, but it does seem that Danish women differ from their American counterparts in that they are much more self-reliant and independant, have trouble making ""iron-clad"" commitments (and don''t demand them in return), and have very firm limits which they fiercely defend. Respect is very very important. Also, the concept of the ""male provider"" seems to have no meaning for them and so you don''t get points for it. But my experience is also that are very romantic, affectionate, loyal and direct. I certainly wasn''t used to that combination. I will email you and we can correspond further if you like. I am very happily married to 70''s ""feminist"" and we had a rocky period, too. "
