Hello

We are considering to move to Copenhagen . We know that it is expensive there but some tips and local info are always useful. We will be depending upon one sallary of around 23000-27000 DKK/month until my wife also finds a job (1-2 years possibly until she learns Danish (or less/more???) and we have one daughter of 2- years old. Is this amount sufficient? We plan to live in Copenhagen, maybe not very center but close, and i ll be working in Roskilde.

We would be glad if you give your opinions on this

Best

We have are also relocating, but not there yet. I have spent a lot of time looking at real estate. Is your salary figure after tax or before?

If you work in Roskilde, live in Roskilde. The cost of living is lower there. In fact, go further west, and your cost is even lower.

You can live on that salery for two people, you will just need to budget. My husband and I did it for a few years. We live in Aarhus but the cost of living is roughly the same, depending on which area you choose to live in. I recommend talking with people who live in CPH for advice on which neighborhoods to rent in.

Your wife can get a job with her English skills (and other languages) it just depends on what she wants to do, i recommend getting involved in volunteer activities (frivillig) so she can start networking. If there is an international community (internationalcommunity.dk) or something like it in CPH get involved with that as well.

Good luck!

Thank you for the comments.

The salary is after tax. It looks like there are more option in CPH then Roskilde but o course that s what i can tell from the web. We plan to stay in an apartment for a couple of weeks (hopefuly not more) in CPH through airbnb and look for houses.

Here is an example. Look at the rental in the link below. Look at this enormous house you can rent for only 9500 DKK a month. It is in a pretty town. At that price, you can afford to buy a car and enjoy a leisurely commute to work. You get more house for your money the further away from Copenhagen you travel.

Very nice house but too far to go with public transport. We prefer closer to the city, this looks like a rural site right?
