Finding a rental home in Copenhagen

Hi all,

I am new here. My partner and I are due to move to Copenhagen within 2-4weeks for his work. He will be working at DTU.

The problem is we cannot find a rental property, we are trying all of the websites and constantly emailing landlords but we either get a response saying it has gone or that there is an open house which we cannot attend as we are currently in the UK. All we can find is temporary accommodation but that means we would have to ship our furniture and then move it all again within a few months. We have been using lejebolig and boligportal and also assistance from my partners work.

Does anyone have any advice or help they can offer? We are getting desperate as they want us to move out there ASAP!!

Any help appreciated.

Hello sjshop. Well it is quite hard getting an appartment in copenhagen but. If you try within one hour from the city you are propably more lucky. I see you are writing about lejebolig and boligportal but I should also suggest some of the free advertising boards like dba.dk. If you look on places like Farum, see http://www.dba.dk/boliger/lejebolig/lejelejlighed/?postnr=3520
, Ballerup (half an hour from city with s-train) see http://www.dba.dk/boliger/lejebolig/lejelejlighed/?postnr=2750
and so on.
Try these and then other areas in the suburban areas.

I guess my response is too late to matter.

I guess DTU is sold out of temporary housing? Because they do have some temporary housing for relocation.

We face the same problem. My advice is to store your furniture at home, and delay its shipment until you find a permanent residence. Storage will likely be cheaper outside of Denmark.

I also find that Danish landlords will not consider you seriously until you are actually there. Maybe they get a lot of idle requests from abroad?

Generally, I find most of my Danish contacts don't really take me seriously right now. Very often they quite openly say, "meet me when you get here and we'll talk about it".

So, I think you will have better response when you are there in person. It is frustrating though to not be able to plan further in advance.

A bit late for the party but for anyone concerned I know housinganywhere.com is one site I had a look at. I'm planning on moving to DK in autumn and some guy at my home university recommended it. Anyone got any other resources?
