Moving to DK from US

Hello! I am an HR professional and I am planning to move to Denmark. I understand it is not as simple as picking up and transplanting myself. I have begun researching the appropriate processes, guidelines, and regulations. My timeline is about 2 years. From what I have read thus far, having a job offer is the best route. But I am wondering how easy the process is, what to expect, do most Danish companies sponsor foreigners, do I really have to prove a certain amount of living expenses in my bank account.....??? So many questions!

I DO have Danish family in Nordjylland (Lokken, Bronderslev, and this general region). I also have family in Jyllinge near Roskilde. What help could my family be in this process? I do not wish to rely on my family for financial means. But if they can vouch for me, what is the process for this?

Also, I am hoping to find work in Aalborg or within an hour of Bronderslev. I would feel more comfortable transplanting myself with or near family until I have a better grasp of the language and culture. At that point, I would consider moving to Copenhagen or elsewhere.

Any insight is greatly appreciated! Mange tak!!

Hello Poetreegurl,

I am in a similar position as you considering to move to Denmark. Currently I am about to enter negotiating phase with a Danish company, to discuss about salary and relocation packages, etc.

Personally I would not just move to Denmark and find work there. It can be quite a challenge unless you are really skilled what you do and have 10 years of experience to back up. Then company will be thrilled to hire you.

Alternatively, you can also consider to try and find a part time jobs, such as waiteress or English teaching or baby sitting, while searching for the big opportunity. The living costs are extremely expensive compare to the US. I am not sure if you have visited Denmark before, but just imagine if you have to pay double or nearly tribbel the price as to US.

Kind regards,

James.

DO NOT MOVE!!! I am a US Citizen that moved to Denmark for love..I am now back in the US and divorcing my abusive Danish husband who beat me for the last few years. There is nothing great about Denmark AT ALL!! Horrible country, the people are cold, the economy is expensive, the weather is horrible and you could not pay me any amount of money to go back EVER!!!!!!!!!!! They don't like Americans and make fun of you at every chance they can. They are rude, cruel and arrogant. WORST COUNTRY EVER!!!!!!!! DON'T MOVE YOU WILL REGRET EVERY SECOND OF THE TIME YOU LIVE THERE!!!!!!!!!

Not worth it and I will say this one thing, SOCIALIST COUNTRY.... If you are not Danish, they will never accept you. They do not hire people who do not speak Danish and who are not Danish and who do not have Viking blood (NOT EVEN KIDDING) There are many other places in this world that I would choose to live over Denmark that would be more welcoming than the Danes are of outsiders. I never understood how they won the award of The Happiest Country because the people are awful and I can say this I am married to a Dane and am in the process of getting a Divorce. Worst experience I have ever had with people, cold, non-caring, arrogant, rude, just nasty all the way around and the Socialism thought process is one I cannot even understand. I appreciate the US more than I ever have after living in Denmark for over year and half and the only other place you could convince me of moving to is a tropical island, that has no running water and I have to catch my own fish to eat.

Totally agree with the post. Horrible country, though I live here for 8 years. But it is better than my country (in asia). I dream to leave this hell ASAP.
