Chill in the air in Olon

So we are arrived in Olon a few days ago and have observed clearly that locals in general don't seem to like us. Is this typical of most coastal towns, or just small coastal towns? We like to get to know some of the locals but that isn't going to happen here it seems.

Interesting -- I have never had a problem in the coastal town I live in or the ones I visit -- and I spend time up in the Olon/Montanita/San Jose area because that is where my spiritual community is based.

So it begs the question, Is it the town, or is it perhaps your demeanor?

I suppose it might beg that question and if we were new to Ecuador it might be a valid question. But we have lived in two other communities in Ecuador over a couple of years and have done well with the locals and enjoyed their friendship. So, no it is not our demeanor. It's very noticeable to us that many people appear unfriendly. I am willing to consider the possibility that they are shy with gringos. We'll figure it out I guess.

I think likely the problem is our perspective. We are tired from our trip here and I believe we have come to realize that we are just a little sensitive at the moment. Thanks for your input OceanHideaway.
