"Prescriptions" accompanying medicine I bring into the country

Can anyone clarify this for me? By "prescriptions," do they simply mean the labels on the bottles, or the actual prescriptions that were written to obtain the meds in the first place? And with either, is it required they be translated into Spanish?

Thanks in advance!

Most prescription medications in the USA are available here without prescription -- and are available via their generics --

If you have a script, bring it -- if not your bottle will help the pharmacist to locate the equivalent medication here.

The issue folks have are with narcotics -- opiates, benzos, -- medications for pain and sedation. Those medications are difficult if not impossible to come by.

Other medications that simply are unavailable here are: benadryl (diphenhydramine) and epinephrine via epi-pen. If you need to have an epi-pen in case of anaphylais, do make sure you have a good supply before getting here -- there is no time in an allergy emergency for messing around.

As always your very best preparation is to vist -- bring your meds with you and visit the local pharmacies to see if they carry your medication BEFORE you make plans to expatriate.

I go to the states 2 times a year. When I return to Ecuador, my prescriptions are in the bottles and NEVER have had any problems. The problems happen in the states when I go through customs. Or course they're a bunch of idiots up there.

I have carried a large ziplock of medications in both directions. Never had an interview re: the drugs. But, as backup to that positive experience I always carry the papers associated with the meds. Paperwork seems to impress.

USNseabee,

Thanks for the SeaBee village at Rota. Great party location. Even if you didn't build it shipmate, thanks. You guys are one of the best parts of the Navy.
