Hello - I'm planning on coming to Ecuador for a month this fall, and was going to do a Spanish language immersion school. Does anyone have experience with Yanapuma Spanish Language School? Or any others with home stays that they would recommend? thx in advance.

Before deciding, please check out Cazhuma Spanish School on Padre Aguirre. My experience was fantastic and I learned so much. One-on-one tutoring for $6.50/hour - how can you beat that? Here's their address: http://cazhumaspanishschool.com/ My tutor was Rafael and I can't recommend him high enough. Charming, sweet, patient, with an infectious passion for Ecuador. Good luck and have fun, whatever you decide to do.

Thanks for the information. So many schools to check out; so little time.

My wife taught herself a great deal from this sight and I'm going to start up with it now that I have the time needed for it.

Hi MadoneRider, Yanapuma Spanish School won "Best Spanish School in 2014" award on Cuenca´s popular www.gringopost.com forum contest. They are a very professional school with well-trained and experienced teachers and a friendly, flexible staff. Their administration is very sensitive to the needs and desires of its students. Plus they are a fun, super friendly place to study Spanish. They are a small school that is almost always full. Also, they are nonprofit! 100% of their profit goes to support poor indigenous communities throughout Ecuador.

Yanapuma charges $9 per hour for private, one-on-one lessons with a teacher, and less if you´re able to join a group. Their prices and all that information is on their website at: www.yanapumaspanish.org

So, do they have anything in Cuenca; or, are they only in Quito?

Yanapuma Spanish School is in Quito and Cuenca. I studied Spanish at the Quito school a few years ago and now I´m fluent. I currently live in Cuenca and volunteer at Yanapuma´s school in Cuenca. That´s how I know that these schools are top-quality - from my own firsthand experience.

Where are they in Cuenca since you are there? I could not find any address for them at the Quito site.

Yanapuma Spanish School is currently located at 6-23 Simon Bolivar street, near Hermano Miguel street. This is just a couple of blocks east of Calderon Park and the Cathedral. However, in a couple of weeks they will be moving around the corner. They will be on Hermano Miguel street between Simon Bolivar and Mariscal Sucre streets, in Cuenca.
