Hi all!
Im new here, from Canada and are planning to check out Ecuador for potential future living. My question is what is the easiest shortest route to either of these places, without taking planes, trains , automobiles, horses, donkeys, etc..lol.. also is there any expats willing to take on a couple of newbies to help out with which area to start off with, travelling up and down the coast without costing an arm and leg..?
Any info would be fantastic!! Thanks so much people!!!

Since you don't want to use any transportation resources " My question is what is the easiest shortest route to either of these places, without taking planes, trains , automobiles, horses, donkeys, etc.." You are limiting any way of getting here except walking, I guess you can do that?

Or

Are there any transportation types that you would not mind traveling on. As of now there are 2 flights a week into Salinas, there are always buses running to and from Salinas. You can take a cab to and from Salinas. No trains out this way. The livestock idea I just do not recommend.

As for helping out some newbies, you will find many gringos along the coast that do not mind helping out playing tour guide etc. I do it quite frequently for Military Veterans and their families in the Salinas area. We have our own transportation so it makes it somewhat easier.

If you are on FaceBook make sure you check out the Ruta del Sol group. You will find many different people who live in many different locations in the areas you are wanting to explore.

There is nothing wrong with teleportation. It's nearly painless and environmentally friendly

the bus is fine...just have someone to talk to or something to read and/or listen to. Going with the flow is as much a part of experiencing Ecuador as anything else. I enjoy vegging out on the bus, watching people and stuff go by, getting the full body massage from the cobblestones and Mercedes suspension (rearmost seats of course)

Actually....truth to tell....I had the same problem Vincent Price did in teleporting....buzzz buzzzz buzzzz

Hello there Susi. Welcome to Ecuador. We have spent the past three years on the Coast. Manta and now the Bahia area. We went from Salinas to North of Esmereldas (Rio Verde) our first year here in a Rental vehicle. Expensive way down here to travel. We found we could not see enough of each location by using the buses. We wanted to explore the entire Coast to see where we would like to settle. From Guayaquil you can start your tour of the Coast with a two hour drive to Salinas. Then make your way North. Manta is your half way point and Bahia is 90 minutes north of Manta. Lots to see and explore and each area is a little different Culturally and weather wise. We prefer the area we are in Bahia. Wetter here, more trees etc. Southern drier near Salinas. Esmereldas far north is near rain forest, even wetter yet. Would be happy to help you in your travels . We can easily share our experiences with you if you like. Send us PM and we'll gladly help you. Enjoy this beautiful Country.......We certainly do. We prefer the Coast for warmth and love the Ocean. Charliie
