It all depends on the neighborhood you live in. If it is available in one neighborhood, it may not be so the next block over. Even if they tell you its available, don't believe it until you actually have a connection they show you. I spent 8 months trying to get ANY internet at my house on la playa, and never could get even a signal sent from a tower I could see. It was a very frustrating experience. But my house was kind of out of the way.

It has not yet gone in via CNT.
It is just going in via Netlife and there are a lot of bugs.
One recent arrival from the states had it put in a couple of days ago and he started writing immediatly after it went in on his faceBook page how dissappointed he is.
I commented when he repeated his complaint on Ecuador Coast which I run...Did you vet the service with any other folks in Salinas? Have you called the installers to come fix it? Have you called the company to fix it?
HIs response was something about knowing folks in Guayaquil who used them, which does not apply to Salinas, and then he commented about how he had service "just like it" in Dallas, and how he knew all about fibre optics.
I have not heardmore from him but he has been online sso I guess it works, just not how he thought it should work.
Remember this Ecuador... Your Mileage May Vary---

If you are referring to the Netlife (Transatelco) program, I had the service for a whole day here in Salinas. While advertised as 15 Mb, (which it is), it runs about 1 Mb to a US server (per your fine print contract). Also my fiber cable was laying in the street to where cars were running over it. Hence the one day test. They were NOT happy when I came back to the office to cancel. I was not leaving until I was cancelled though.
Folks run speedtest.net which is fine for a "local" test but you need to run a different program which has a US server if you want to see what your video streaming experience is really like.
The bottom line is don't be fixated on fiber optics. This is not FIOS like what you may be used to. It should be more reliable than DSL (which depends a lot on your house or building wiring) but it is Ecuador. If you run a critical business, buy a load share device and get two different services.
Have fun out there. Its a jungle.

Rickr1,
Thank you for your post and honest opinion re: fiber optic service in Ecuador. Just recently I rented an apartment in Salinas and the person who we rented mentioned the fiber optics and for some reason I thought that the company was similar to Verizon that I had in the US. I guess we all make mistakes specially if one does not think however the reason I posted the subject in hopes to hear from someone that already experienced the fiber optics in Ecuador. Again I appreciate your post and the fiber optics will have to wait.

Thanks Rick!
Thats info we can use!
Precise, to the point and informative.
It tells us what was wrong and your action to correct it and the outcome.
Information such as that is Journalism.
Who, What, Where, When, Why and How...as in How can we fix this?
Ecuador is famous for Charles Darwin...and the theory of Evolution which is all about Adaption.
If we really want to be successful as expatriates, I believe we need to learn to adapt and that requires learning and sharing what we learn.
This knowledge allows us to continually adapt to the new situations presented to us in our new environment and learn to communicate our needs within the structural confines of this unique culture into which we have entered as a community, a very heterogenous community but communiity noetheless.
Once again, thank you for your participation.
Rick is the Administrator of a page on FaceBook centered on what is happening in and around the Salinas ares. It is called SALINAS STUFF
I reccommend it for keeping on top of what is happening in and around the Malecon of Salinas in the Gringo Community. The membership is over 300 at this time and is especially helpful as a welcome wagon too folks just entering the area or coming to visit for the first time.
