Clothing for the high altitudes

I am beginning to go through the culling process of my belongings and am busily preparing myself for my move to Ecuador at the end of February.

However, in the middle of culling my clothing for the temperate climes of Ecuador (Vilcabamba), it occurred to me that I will be traveling to other places at much higher altitudes such as Cuenca and Quito. I have lived a a tad lower than Cuenca at about 7200 feet, but I lived where the weather was dry. It occurred to me that during the rainy season at Cuenca's varying altitude of 7700-8300 feet and Quito's 9300 feet (Wikipedia was my source - hope it was correct!), the temperatures might seem cooler than what they would feel at the same altitude in a drier climate.

I know many people dress in layers to keep warn, but I was wondering if lightweight woolens would ever seem appropriate for Cuenca and Quito in the evenings or during the daytime, for that matter, when the rains are doing their dances!
