Places to eat in Cuenca...Gringos who like Gringos

Some posts on where to eat in Cuenca.....

Take your visitors to one of the cuenca gringo nights. That should encourage them. I've worked on flight lines and in paper mills. I think the noise levels are higher at one of the gringo nights.

Maybe living in New England for 40 years has made me socially reticent.

A gringo who is socially active or wants to be but fears isolation if they retire to cuenca will find the opposite is true....they'll have to put on extra shifts to handle the action. Its like pledge week in hell (I imagine).

The CK was sold to the head waiter. I don't think its gonna make it....George, the former owner, was the reason it did as well as it did. Service now is like watching a fly trying to escape amber....Um poco Leeeeen Taaaaay.

There are other places, Fabianos Pizza for example. Too noisy for my taste.

I stay away from cuenca a few months and lots changes. People leave, some go to the coast, some return to the states. A few move south to VC. Planeloads of new people to fill in the empty seats.

there are a couple of nice spas on the south side of the city. A friend of mine took me to his in May just before I flew north. Hot water, Cold water. Torture you pay for.

cuenca is nice because its big enough to have a lot of stuff. Venues for a variety of activities. Gringos if you need gringos, locals if you want to go native. Hospitals if you're not long for this world.

And now, German craft beer! or there was when I left. A bar called the "Far Out" about three blocks from larga just off Hermano Miguel. German expat with his returna cuencana frau.

Others to visit: San Sebas at Parque San Sebastian for breakfast or lunch, Goza....used to be called Coffee Tree, Manjores (spelling) Roux, Amore, La Esquina (on Calle Larga by the big stairs, Tiestos, Villa Rosa (redecorated and reopened by the nephew) Nectar, Fabianos for gringo night and decent pizza) El Jardine. If you can swing transportation go to a town called Paute and a resort/restaurant called Huzipud for lunch....beautiful, quiet, and decent prices....or....the other way out of town go to Dos Choreros (spelling) toward the Cajas.....again quiet, beautiful and an elegant trout meal at a decent price.

Not all of these are CHEAP CHEAP but all have very good entres for less than $14/$15. I've never been good on addresses even in the States much less with Spanish names.

Oh yes, almost forgot....take them to Joe's Secret Garden. You need reservations and they only serve on Saturday night but ALL gringos and decent food. Another is Paladars....again you need reservations, only Saturday night and ALL gringos. Both advertise on Gringo Tree.
