President Obama’s decision to seek full diplomatic relations with Cuba has received rave reviews in Latin America, where the U.S. policy of isolating Havana has long been unpopular.
Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos said on his Twitter feed that the actions will “change the history of the hemisphere.” He pledged his cooperation to “bridge differences” between the two nations.
“No matter how great our divisions, we can overcome them with dialogue and perseverance,” he said.
Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto applauded the “president’s courage in charting a new course in U.S. relations with Latin America and the Caribbean, and committed to supporting the initiative,” during a call with Vice President Joe Biden.
“We all thought this day would never come," Brazil's President Dilma Rousseff said in a press conference.
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, a staunch critic of U.S. foreign policy and Cuba’s best ally, called the move a “a courageous and necessary gesture” saying that Obama “has taken perhaps the most important step of his presidency.” In my humble opinion, Obumba recognized and supported another dictator CASTRO who has his prisoners that he did not kill locked up. Obumba is complaining about the CIA but he likes the communist dictators as I said, the CASTRO BROS AND MANUDO will be invited soon to the WHITE HOUSE. THEY NEED OUR MONEY!!!

If we can deal with China, we can certainly deal with Cuba. I would rather deal openly with Cuba than go through another Cuban missile crisis with a pissed off Putin watching his economy fail again.

I would have preferred that he goes through congress. What he did means absolutely nothing. He cannot lift economic sanctions without congressional approval. Lifting some travel restrictions will not help the Cuban people, as evidenced by all the European and other countries that can already visit. If he really wanted to help the people he would go through congress and negotiate what he wants. This is purely a political move to show the Repubicans that the recent take over of congress meant nothing. I think this rediculous economic embargo should lifted.

The Miami Cubans decided it was time so it happened. I doubt that in the long run it will be good for the life of the Cubans in Cuba.
Usually when people say "Freedom and Democracy" they mean Capitalism. I don't believe a return to the 50's will make life better in Havana.

withextra, I am sorry, but I must have missed a lot. Did you vote the Miami Cubans into the White House? I agree that is not going to be better for the Cubans in Cuba, the Castro bros. and whoever they appoint as their future successor will have more money to build more prisons to house the Cubans living in Cuba. If Capitalism is was so bad you should move to N. Korea and give your $$$ to a poor Ecuadorian family, in N. Korea you do not need your money since they will feed you for free....

Ecuador Joe, I would have voted to open relations with Cuba. Other than drinking the kook-aid of the mass media propaganda machine of the USA, what do you know about Cuba? Ever been there? You seem to talk out both sides of your mouth. First capitalism, second actually suggesting "giving something away?" Maybe by opening trade relations with Cuba, the USA can continue to build more prisons, since they have more prisoners per capita than any other country on the planet! The Miami Cubans are already in Washington. Ever hear of Rubio or Ros-Lehtinen? And why is it that they don't want normalized relations with Cuba? Could it interfere with their private little wars in Central America that bring in so much financial support to themselves.
