Hi, my husband and I are looking to relocate to Ecuador some time in the next year along with our two young children (9 months and 3 years). We would like to come and scout out potential cities we are interested in living in (mainly Cuenca, Canoa/Bahia, La Liberated, Salinas). Where is the best place to fly in to, and should we rent a car or take a bus? With young children, we are not sure what would be the best and safest options. We also are really hoping to connect with other expat families with young children to glean from their experiences and to help us decide where to live (cost of living, safety, schools, availability of organic food). Thank you so much for any information!

1. Guayaquil 2. Neither. Hire a car and a bilingual driver who knows the country. 3.Go back through some of the other posts on this site that have askef the same questions about education etc. 5he response and info is all here. It just takes a little bit of digging.

Cordell family --
Have you given thought to what you will do to support yourselves -- that has much to do with where you settle.
Is there a reason you are looking to Ecuador as opposed to another country -- what other countries have you looked at or visited?
What information do you have already and what were your information sources?

While you are in Ecuador check out MANTA. Large city on the coast may have many items on your check list.

CORDELL's....Do your homework: Get a map... google the various cities in the geographic area you prefer (seaside... mountains... jungle )....take two/ three weeks and visit them. It all depends upon what YOU are looking for. Contact a realtor in each city to get them to hook you up with the local expat group to network. You can meet some great people, find out when/ where they get together. DO NOT RENT A CAR. Hire a driver who speaks English. Checkout the "CITY GUIDES" on this blog as a starter. Good luck.

I agree do not rent a car the insurance is more then the car rental. We made that mistake on our first trip, roads are not well marked is at all. You can get driver to take you to main city starting point, then taxi while in city. and so on from place to place.
We have 6 year old and are now coming back to decided between Manta and Salinas for our final move. The 2nd trip we planned to see Salinas, but where discouraged from doing so. But after read these post have decided we need to check again to make sure.
Good luck

We are able to sustain ourselves online with our business so we can live anywhere. We chose Ecuador after looking at other central and south american countries for a warm climate, low cost of living, and availability of fresh produce! We have been reading a lot of blogs and especially like Gringos Abroad!

Hi, one of the nicest areas to raise kids is Manglaralto near Montanita. We have a house there and the area is safe and awesome for various amenities. La Libertad is only 45 minutes away

You do know that --- the family in Gringos Abroad ...no longer live here... right?
They...moved on...
There business is in selling the "concept" of living in another country ...and making it look like the thing to do ...but they don't live here they moved back home.
Think about it ...the REALITY is NOT the FANTASY being sold in the blog....
Something to ponder when you put it all together and get ready to take it on the road...
