When I first arrived in Ecuador around November 15th or so of 1980, I had a pretty good grasp of basic Spanish and I was 24 years old. What surprised me after having been both in Quito and Guayaquil was how many words and phrases I had no idea existed in the Spanish lexicon.
I also had no idea that I would meet and fall in love with an Ecuadorian on my first day in Guayaquil although I had a premonition that my destiny lie in Ecuador. Well, falling in love with someone from another country clearly motivated to gain a deeper grasp of the language. That is when I took out a little black notebook and started jotting down all the unique words and phrases that I heard and that made no sense to me.
Through the years studying these words and phrases and learning more all the time, I have put them into a collection for any of those wanting to know more about the Spanish language in Ecuador. It is now available for pre-order on Amazon for the Kindle. There are over 2000 entries of which many I think you will find interesting. There are also terms that some may find offensive and not politically correct. Anyhow, I hope you will be entertained and gain a stronger knowledge about the culture of Ecuador. It is from a my heart and I had to visit a lot of bars to accumulate this lexicon.
If you don't have a Kindle, Amazon does provide free apps to read on almost any device.
I hope this helps you in your study of the Spanish language in Ecuador.

Nick, this is great news. I've looked for something like this for years here, without luck. I look forward to buying a copy of your book in June!

Actually, about 1 1/2 years ago I created a pamphlet of Ecuadorian words and terms and gave them away to hostals in La Mariscal in Quito

Yes there will be a test but it will be announced as a mandate by the govt two days before it is given. :
I hope this will help a great number of people. I first published on called Spanish Colloquialisms Ecuador in 1999 - ISBN 0-9667715-0-8 in a very limited printing. It only contained 500 entries. Hopefully, this one will be much better with over 2000 entries.

That's great, Nick. I've already ordered my Amazon Kindle copy for June 1st at the pre-release price of $3.25.
Even if I can add just 25-30 new and useful phrases to my Ecuador 'phrase-book' it will be terrific.
The 'church-lady' who questioned a "commercial on the blog" doesn't have a clue as to what a treasure we have in a man with decades of EC experience willing to share his knowledge through e-books any Expat can afford.

Thanks! I just ordered your book for my Kindle. We are planning a November visit to check out Cuenca as a possible retirement location.
