Well they did it again. International Living ranks Ecuador as number one place in the world to retire. http://latinamericacurrentevents.com/ecuador-ranked-number-one-as-best-place-to-retire-in-the-world-by-international-living/34325/

More accurately...
FOX NEWS .Com Latino! has stated what IL states... except if you read the copy they made a silly typo in Paragraph three where they ...forgot to insert (Latin American) country here_____
Still... IL through one of their "international editors" did actually endorse Nicholas Crowder's Book ...for it's accuracy and truthfulness...
She did it on FaceBook and I got it down on a few other locations so it's there for posterity -- because an endorsement like that is truly something special.
The perfect negative endorsement!
100 Points to Know before Moving or Retiring to Ecuador. On Amazon.com...download it to any device through any of the free reading devices..
Still under $5 and worth the investment.

kmoriarty45,
in light of all of those glowing International Living Articles articles, what do think your biggest disappointments are about Ecuador? .

nickspm,
That's hard for me to answer because I'd been here a few times, over the years, prior to moving and was, because of work and travels, fairly familiar with many South and Central Countries, so I pretty much ignored what IL was pushing. My decision was made, however, after much research and consideration of a multitude of factors. I guess my downside opinions are more frustrative then disappointed. Slow internet is a burr under my saddle and ATM and banking restrictions have at times been a source of irritation but both areas are slowly progressing, thanks to the government's concerns to bring Ecuador into world class standing. As I said, I personally didn't drink the IL kool-aid, so I wasn't let down or lied to.

Like I have said many times here, It has much more to do with the person than with the country. Few people are able to be objective about themselves yet they seek information about the country as though that will tell them whither they and the country are a fit.
The only advice is "come on down" and if you stay five years and don't like it, leave.
and besides, most gringos move every few years when they are in the states anyhow...why would they stay rooted in Ecuador?

rictic...
you should meet up with a friend of mine in Canoa -- has an organic farm and makes great curries... Finca de Flavor.
She is also a professional horse and dog breeder and works in the animal rescue field (did in Africa and now on the coast with spay/neuter/inoculate recover & release work )
She's right there with you on the rest of your list -- maybe there is an import business in this?
