I am a single male who will be retiring in a couple of years, I will only have my SS to live on about $1100/month. Is is feasible to live in Concena for that amount. I am not a big spender and could live a simple life with only having dinner or a movie or some entertainment a few times a month.

This is an oft asked question and the answer basically remains the same. Depends... It depends on your lifestyle and it depends on where you want to live.
For example, Cuenca or Quito or Guayaquil are more expensive cities to live in than Loja or Machala ( where I live ). Cost of living is proportional to the amount of expats living there. More gringos = higher cost of living.
Concena ?? Never heard of it. If you are trying to say council housing, ...no, not for the first year or so after you obtain your pensioners visa. That type of public development housing is specifically for Ecuador citizens ( in most cases ).
However, again, depending on location, you can rent a nice apartment ( why buy ? ) quite inexpensively either furnished ( more expensive ) or furnish yourself relatively cheaply without breaking your budget. Just remember, just like the States, most landlords require first &last months rent and in many cases a security deposit.
As a single retiree, I did very well on that amount monthly. But I am not extravagant and tried to stay within my budget. I had years of practice as a single man in Florida.

No one can answer your question correctly since who knows what costs will be in 2 years. Frankly none of us who live here actually knows what the currency will be in 2 years. There's also a presidential election in 2 years and in South America politically things change quickly and that could also effect the financial situation. Right now, my wife and I live on less than 1100.00 but we own our house. In 2 years, who knows

Answer, you can live well in Ecuador on $1100 and I expect this will be true in two years...though the trend skews toward higher costs.
I am in my second week back in the states....OMG, the prices have gone up on groceries! The packages shrink and the price goes up. Enjoy Ecuador guys, it is a sweet spot for sure.

my guess as you probably know , it is good to hang onto your dollars as they should become more valuable as they are disappearing as we talk in Ecuador . Daily the Pres. is looking to acquire more through various ways , he's hurting and the system is hurting . Things always turn around . Good things come and go. Change is in the wind , as always . Frugality is wisdom as showed by our friend , from now Vilacabamba formally from Cuenca . You show the same and is nice to see . Nothing is the way we imagined it and it would be lousy if it was . Where ever we live we can know only one thing and that is "things always change" , Thank the great Ape [God for many of you you] --- Willie

As my friend Warren Steele of Stainless Realty fame used to say: " Get a lot while you're young ! "
As many of us ( to use a football analogy ) are playing in the 4th Quarter and the clock is ticking down, it is important to conserve our energy and strength, and manage our resources. We can blow it all and go for one last futile push, culminating with a desperate Hail Mary pass, in hopes of getting that last touchdown. Or, put together a strong drive, gritty and grinding, yard by yard, until we reach the goal line. Just remember, it's not whether you win or lose the game, it's how you beat the spread ! The great Brady in the Sky is deflating our balls but we can still score !!

KMORIARTY45, Not quite sure about the football analogy but that's what I am doing in my last quarter. I am trying to amass a nest egg, come to EC and live off of $1100 in SS.
Any suggestions as to where in EC I could live a comfortable life on that amount

Any of the gringo hotspots -- you need to decide what your flavor is ...and who you want to chill out with ...
Are you a Mt or a Beach guy? No...don;t make your choice up immediately, choose one to try first then try the other... you will decide what you prefer, who you want to be with and then chose what you prefer doing.
There are those living their "last quarter" as if every night was Saturday night and it's always weekend... Those who are doing volunteer work... And some who are simply...doing what they did in the USA in front of a tv wondering why they came here...
If you sole reason to come to Ecuador is monetary or to escape some "regime" change -- or to ride out civil unrest you think is going to visit you personally... then you won;t be any better off here...
Come to Ecuador because you have decided you want to live here, not because you can;t stand living "there" -- wherever there is...
Coming to Ecuador is not the dream being sold by International Living on their latest news outlet... currently Fox.news... just so you know other weeks they post on Huffington ;)
