What is an Apostille?

Once again we have a new poster asking a very basic question -- and while questions in and of themselves are never stupid, it does raise the case that if a person asks a very basic question, does it not reflect on the questioner about their own capabilities in the Great Adventure of Being an Expat?

...My answer is...yes.

If they cannot at this point in the 21st century navigate the internet ...they will have a very difficult time navigating a foreign street with a foreign name that might not even be on the sign post up ahead.

For example the term apostille.

Yes it was new to me too once way back when (1985 actually) and I learned about it in books.

and that includes services that can get whatever you need notarized and apostilled, give you the reason, the history, who is under the convention treaties, and who is not.

Go ahead, go Google, or Yahoo, or Bing...whatever your flavor.

Because the person who goes looking for the answer has proven curiosity, they have shown incentive to look and initiative. And that is what a person looking to live abroad requires.

Sucking down pablum predigested to make your move smooth and easy and ...easy to blame on others...well that is a very North American United States trait.

If you fit into that second category -- be sure to bring lots of really nice stuff -- you'll get good prices for it when you sell it all to head back home in the usual 2 years average most folks in that category stay before they bug out and head ...to that cheap condo back home. Maybe wiser, maybe humbler...definitely a whole lot poorer than when this song began.
