From my years in Quito (2013-onward), I don't recall seeing 'adolescentes' outdoors smoking cigarettes. So in my experience the answer is no.

What happens with teens indoors -- or in Nalgas del Cerdo, Sucumbíos -- I wouldn't really know about.

I hadn't really noticed but now that I think about it, no. This in spite of single cigarettes being sold at the corner convenience stores.

I got here six years ago and at that point I hadn't smoked cigs for twenty years.

Another cultural difference.

JessicaHBlue,
Ecuador entered into a fair trade agreement with Cuba 6 months after RFC took office. That having occured caused the price of Cohibas to drop like a rock. A wooden box of cigars runs about $2.43 at the mercado.
Our teenagers love them. They don't smoke anything else. It is kind of funny to see them walking around town in Ponchos, Panama hats, and a big Cigar hanging out of their lips.
You just need to come and see it for yourself.
To answer your questions, there is not a single young person that smokes cigarettes in Ecuador.

This is interesting! OP's question seems simple enough. Most normal people would interpret "smoking cigarettes" as "smoking tobacco", that's one. Second, two senior contributors said "NO". One other "Je ne sais quoi" contributor, said "Yes". Claiming the kids don't even smoke cigarettes, they smoke cigars.

Now, if you are new to this site, who should you believe?

Rarely, when they´ve been partying hard. Single cigarette bought and smoked at a club.

That would be teens...under 20.

I googled it:

23.2 % of boys smoke.
18.1 % of girl smoke.

Smoke what?

Just because it says tobacco atlas does no presuppose they are smoking that particular plant.

Just an observation.

It also fails to align with the visual evidence.

Any attempt to prolong this thread is pitiful. The name of the website does not leave any room for guesses. Just a quick dictionary lookup of the word "atlas" would clear any doubt.

Atlas: "a bound volume of charts, plates, or tables illustrating any subject".

In this case, the subject is tobacco.

Atlas was also a character. He along with a tortoise held up the world in myth. This feat of strength took all his attention and he had none available for a cig. Was he a teenager? I doubt it. Did he have any kids? Did they smoke?

Many of the Gods up on Olympus observed of Dianna, "That mortal is SMOKE'N'" Some even took trips down the mountainside to investigate closer. They concluded she was hot but had no tobacco products.

The responses make every bit as much sense as the questions.

"Is smoking cigarettes common for a Ecuador teenager?"

Which teenager? Define common.

Old threads never die. They don't even fade away.

Me thinks you have way too much time on your hands. Rather than constantly complain, why don't you get out more and enjoy the countryside.

What I am pointing out is, just because you found it on the internet in a tome of facts rarely means it is factual in regards to Ecuador.

... Something to remember when doing your research...

C'mon, some observant person please tell the truth......The Fresas are all lightin up, especially in the cities, Quito, Guayaquil and Cuenca......I saw it in many bars........All the young chicas and dudes goin outside to light up..........and its the same here in Panama and long been that way in Costa Rica......Its fashionable........stupid but fashionable, and it doesnt seem to matter how much it costs either......Not sure how much they are in Ecuador cuz I dont smoke, but here in Panama, they are like $4.50......crazy baby! So I assume all you knowledgable people out there livin in Middle Earth know what a Fresa is by now right? Thats the Costa Rican word for yuppie.......They probably got a different word there in Ecuador for the young impressionable wannabes............
