I have 5 adorable grey tabbies, two spotted, one striped, one white with stripes, one reverse black and grey with white paws (like Mozart from Pinnochio!)

All weaned, cat box trained, and my foundation will pay for their spay/ neuter in 6 months

Who wants a darling kitten? 6 weeks old!

Here in Montañita!

What foundation do you have?

Over the years we have adopted many dogs and cats we've found / rescued. and had them all operated on which has cost > $1000 so far.

Good luck finding a home for the kittens though. I would offer but we lost 5 in the last 18 months so perhaps not the best place. 2 disappeared, one was killed by something and I found the vultures around her, 2 runts were just too small / too weak when we got them and didn't survive.

The two we have now though have are about 8 months so hopefully we have broken the curse

Well these kittens are all mine because I didn't get Sissie, my little rescue female grey tabby, fixed in time! But... She and her sister Callie (guess her colors) are scheduled for their surgery and have each received a contraceptive shot to protect against pregnancy.

As for foundations, I am working with Paws4Ecuadogs. We are a small group with our headquarters in NJ. I am the administrator here in Montañita.

Were working on the website so I'll have to share just the Facebook page.

One thing I have been able to learn from this, my first and last "planned" litter: I know 90% of the queen cats don't get the food, nutrition, safety, even fresh water they need to have healthy kittens.

We have five beautiful, plump, curious, rambunctious and utterly delightful creatures.

But what you described, with runts, failure to thrive, and worse, is the norm.

Breaking the cycle of continuous litters, and systematically spaying the females (allowing ample time for complete recovery in an enclosed and secure medically supervised refuge before re release) is a major pillar of our program.

With the advent of injectable depot contraceptive s, at about $5 a shot including syringe, any female dog or cat entering puberty at 5/6 months and every 6 months can kept from having a litter.

Susan,
Can we get the women here and in the USA some of those shots? I think that would be a great solution for the Planned Parenthood Abortion issues. (:

Susan,
Sorry, I hung a left turn when I shouldn't have. Just being a smartass, as usual.
I really respect your working to make life better for the little ones that need it. Bless you, bless you, bless you!

We do have the depo provers shot in the USA but it is not without side effects.

Unfortunately it is not covered by most insurance and will not be covered under the proposed health insurance.

Depot provers however is available in most every other civilized country.
