life cost in Cairo and District

Dear all,

A french pharmaceuticals compagny offers to me a local contract in Cairo and my girlfriend (wife before being in Egypte) will join me to live togther (2 adults). She speaks arabic, english and french.

The company offers 7000 LE / month + the housing, transport from the appartement to the office (and I don't know yet for the life cover insurance and retirement in France or a private one).

How can we live with 7000 LE in Cairo ?

Moreover, I have to choose between Maadi and Heliopolis district. I want to take into account the safety, life quality, and involvement in the social life. As a matter of fact, I would like to discover more than an expatriate district but I want to feel good at my place.

At last, does anyone know how to contribute and how much does cost the retirement in France and Life cover insurance from Egypt ?

Thank you very much,

Best regards,

Maxime

Maxime,
First: 7000 LE is not, or barely enough.
Living in a good area for expats costs at least 2000 (furnished).
I may be underestimating too, so let's say 2500-3000 EGP/mo. especially after the rocketing raise in fuel prices recently.

Say 1000 EGP for food.
Say 1000 EGP for taxis. (at least EGP 10 for a 3-mile trip)
Say 1000 EGP for cloths, getting out, mobile calls, etc.

This is for one person.

You will get nothing to save then!

- You can save by renting an unfurnished (1500-2000/mo), and use help from your colleagues/co-workers to buy cheap stuff for your apartment.

I am not sure, but mostly your company has to provide you health insurance, by law. Check this with expats.

Maadi is cheaper, near downtown - i.e.: all and every place/service you need - and also has a complete areas of foreigners' residence (Maadi itself - close to Maadi Club and Sakanat ElMaadi)

Good luck :)
