Hope someone can help as I'm not sure what to do and info online is scarce.

I am a British female, have been living in Cairo for 11 years, married to an Egyptian. I have 2 primary-age dual nationality (Egyptian/British) kids. I want to work here but have had problems with work permits. I have the residence visa through my husband.

Some people tell me to get the Egyptian Citizenship to which I am now entitled. Then I can work easily. Others warn me against it but I'm not sure if their concerns are valid. They say:

- I might be paid less as a teacher (but I've had trouble getting hired at all, as a foreigner)

- If my marriage breaks down I'll be treated badly in divorce/custody court as an Egyptian.

- My Embassy won't be able to help me if I have trouble with the government here (though I'm not a political activist, nor a criminal and frankly they haven't been that much help in the past)

- The Embassy wouldn't be obliged to help evacuate me in a war (but does that extend to my dual nationality kids? I wouldn't leave without them - and how does the British Embassy know we're dual nationality? You don't declare your newly acquired citizenship to the Embassy.)

It's a real pain not being Egyptian and since I have family links here I don't like the idea of not being entitled to residency/work in Egypt in my own right.

Any suggestions, please?
