hi , i am in the middle of packing for my move to el salvador (as we speak, i am trying to figure out those bags you fill, and suck the air out with a vaccum) anyways, long story short, grew up in massachusetts, raised my family in nh,retired to fla, met a wonderful man, bought a house...three days later he was deported. So off i go. I have been three times since march, and i love it. We will be living in san isidro, cabanas. It is beautiful there, any advice on packing would be appreciated!!! I need to fill a hugh box by tomorrow night, and they will ship it on thursday, last two boxes took five weeks! This box is mostly kitchen, bedding,tv and stuff of the like!!!! I will empty my house and leave it to the realtor to try to rent!!!! thats my story. I hope to hear from you all!!! ana

Feel free to contact me by p.m. after you arrive, I live in San Salvador for 17 years this time, first time was 40 years ago for a short time. Send me a p.m. and I will send you contact information, if you will be seeking residency have your Birth Certificate and Police Report certified (Apostille) before your departure, getting residency, even if married to a Salvadoran, is a nightmare. saludos Sure you are able to pack yourself!!!!!!!!!

Here's the link to the residency procedures (in English) from the Ministry of Justice and Public Security in case anyone needs it. http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?hl=es&ie=UTF8&rurl=translate.google.com.sv&sl=es&tl=en&u=http://www.seguridad.gob.sv/index.php%3Foption%3Dcom_content%26view%3Darticle%26id%3D357%26Itemid%3D88&usg=ALkJrhgSgkE_o27HWpWd5UaxwWtQFverGg

RE: DENTAL WORK I took my son last year to get 3 fillings done in my husbands home town of Usulutan for only $175. Paid 12 when the dr started and the other when she finished. They are still in and his teeth are still good. The dentists here in the USA dont like the fact we went to get work done in another country and are always wanting to pull them out, eventhough xrays show everything is ok.... go figure... but I looooved it there and we have a house built already. We're just waiting for our baby to be born and are trying to save money for a couple more years and we are wanting to move there :)

Hi! how much is the cost of living outside of San Salvador?? say in like San Miguel or Sant Ana?? i'm wondering about the cost to rent an apartment with furniture (short rental - up to 6 months) and the cost of daily living (aside from the apartment). I dont want to rough it up and eat rice and beams everyday; but i also do not splurge. I want to be able to get away duriing winter time (I live in Canada) around Nov. to March. At first it would be just me, but about 2 years later, someone else will join me. I am a Salvadorean by birth, so no residency issues. I left El Salvador a long time ago when I was a teenager.
I want be able to travel around the country once i'm there. Any real life range of costs would be appretiated. Thanks.
