Purchasing a vehicle direct from the owner is very simple in El Salvador, each day, best Monday through Friday are hundreds of classified ads selling vehicles of all types and prices are negociable, do bring a local mechanic with you to check motor and drive train and diagnose, if you speak no Spanish try and get a bi lingual mechanic or in addition a native speaker who is able to make calls, appointments and ask questions on the phone, if your Spanish is intermediate or above you can do this yourself, or a spouse or relative if He or She is Salvadoran, the ads appear in the daily edition of Prensa Grafica the 'yellow pages' and El Diario de Hoy both newspapers come out in the early morning, as in USA avoid Auto Dealers if you are able, you will also see many Vehicles with S/V "Se Vende" (for sale) written on white on back windows with phone number, a friend of mine bought an older SUV here in ES a few months ago and is satisfied..again if you are not a mechanic, bring a mechanic or take the seller and vehicle to a Taller or mechanic shop with you and if no Spanish skills a local friend or relative...remember used cars are about 50% more expensive than in USA due to matricula and or import taxes originally paid for ES plates..if the vehicle is in good mechanical condition negociate, especially if the Vehicle has dents or scratches, check the tires and suspension as well, we did this all in Auctions years ago where the mechanic was not allowed to test drive but could turn on the motor and diagnose. Buena Suerte.
