Hola. I'm looking for some updated information on what my long term internet options are in the La Libertab/ Playa San diego area. Gracias.

There is internet available. Tigo/Moviestar and Claro all have plans. I have Claro. Phone/basic cable and 10mg of data for 35.00 each month.

In Playa San Diego the only internet provider is Claro with 2 options, a stick modem that you can prepay by the month or post pay with a 2 yr contract. There is now a WiFi modem available also with a 2 yr contract.
Both are slower than molasses flowing uphill in a Canadian winter but there's no other option at this time.

I'm interested in the wifi modem. What would the monthly cost be for that type of setup?

I am paying $20.67 for 10g but that is as an existing customer, I think it is $30 for new customers but Claro has special offers all the time so you may luck out on a deal.

In order to get a modem, unless you know someone, you must have a DUI. In El Salavdor everything is negotiable, but be prepared to deal with that.

@giantmouse Not True!!! All one needs is a passport, cash or a debit/credit card, a landline telephone number of a friend and sign a 2-year contract.
It's a new system, different than the old one you're thinking of. I know as I have one plus my old stick that I recharge for guests wanting to use more data than just checking email and a bit of facebook.

As moussey should know things in El Salvador are always subject to change. What was true this morning may be different this afternoon.

Thanks for the offer Dave. I will take you up on that next time I'm there. Do you have an e mail address that we can use to chat?
