Hello...
I am new to this forum and am hoping to get advice from people who have relocated from the US to Fiji. I have been doing a lot of research and am leaning toward the Coral Coast area in Viti Levu.
I am a yoga teacher and hope to secure a job as an instructor at a resort before I relocate.
I would appreciate any feedback on good places to live in the area, prices, crime rate, shopping, etc.
Thank you!!

I lived in Fiji for about 6 weeks so cannot qualify for much advice but I am thinking of spending winters over there. Many people have paved the way for us! Good advice on these forums. Where are you moving from?>?

Just a reply about moving to Fiji, I lived in Narata Village which is in the Sigatoka Valley for 6 months a few years ago. Sigatoka town is where you will shop, bank and get most things you need. I couldnt work in Fiji so did community things in the Village to keep busy. Its difficult to find a rental before you leave, once you get there more options open with housing. I absolutely loved Fiji & all the people in the village I got to know and have visited for many years, I plan to retire back there one day too!! Good luck - Lynda

Hi! Thank you for the reply! I have been receiving very encouraging feedback about the villages and friendliness of the people in Fiji. I am planning on flying there to look at everything and then will hopefully find a suitable place to live. Maybe we will run into each other on the island one day! Thanks for your advice!

WOW, very exciting! The one thing that I love so much about Fiji is the people. But also while being there, the country is so polluted. I saw people come out of a store open something, throw it on the ground. I wish you the best, and I may not be that far behind you:) Keep us all posted on your progress! BP

Id like to invest in a yoga studio...and semi-retire on an exotic island. Looking at options worldwide. When are you planning on leaving?
We should talk. Do you have skype?

Hello everyone! Delayed response on my end - sorry about that!
I sent PM's to a few of you who responded. I'm very interested in making connections and bringing yoga to Fiji!
Namaste.

I am flying to Nadi on Oct 26 because my girlfriend is in the peace corps. I have found it extremely difficult to try and plan an extended stay there. I went ahead and got my TEFL certificate hoping some sort of work would pop up. Worse comes to worse I have a work visa for New Zealand.

you can't work in fiji unless you have a work visa. they won't even allow you to volunteer unless YOU pay- it's ridiculous. I lived here for 9 months with my husband, and was unable to work the entire time.

It is easy and inexpensive to setup a sole trader business (us$1600) which gives you work permit and 3 year visa.
Let me know if you need assistance.

Hi, we too are considering moving to fiji and have gotten conflicting info. I am a US medical doctor and my partner wants to set up a B&B or health retreat. So $1600 US gets you a....business license to start any business there! And gives you a 3 year work visa?
Also, is it really that polluted with litter? That surprises me. We will be spending 3 weeks there in May. Looking for land and housing to purchase as well as a place for me to practice medicine, either solo or to be hired in a clinic. I do primarily holistically medicine. Any suggestions? Thanks, Tracy

I think litter is a better definition---In the cities -- countryside may be better as they burn or compost their garbage. Of course bottles & aluminum is recycled. Some people are coming directly from India as Itenerate cane farmers. Just remember you are in a poor third world country. I love Fiji and have been there 4 times now. The native Fijians are very friendly, lovely people. I want to retire there from the USA. I'm just investigating the tax consequences and Social Security income.

Hi to all people relocating: Consider going to the Northern Islands. They are the most beautiful area. Taveuni in particular is unspoilt and clean. Suggest you look at the South end. Also Savu Savu is really special. Both places quite different to Viti Levu in terms of tropical terrain. More like Hawaii in the old days. I have been travelling there every year for 35 years. I have my place there for the Australian winter - it is wonderful.
