Moving from us to Fiji with young kids

Hello, my dream has always been to move and raise my family outside the busy USA and we might be looking at an opportunity coming up to make that happen. I was just looking for advice on living in Fiji with young children (currently 1 and 3) my husband would have to find a job and I would hopefully still be at home with the kids. We are fine with homeschooling but aren't sure on the best locations on the islands for a family like us. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hard question to answer as Fiji is so diverse. I would recommend coming to Suva, (capital of Fiji, largest city but not rains a lot and has a lot of crime in parts) or Lautoka, (second biggest city, much drier and hotter, less crime) to start so you at least have reasonable shopping and some expat style accommodation available. Then have a look around and decide what sort of life you want. If your husband has reasonable skills and get a work permit employment is easy. There is a huge shortage of skilled people to employ here.

We moved here from Canada and live at Pacific Harbour along the Coral Coast. Its a small community about 45 minutes from Suva but has some shopping nearby and there is a school. Don't know what your husband is planning on doing for a job, there are resorts close by and I already have said that Suva is 45 minutes. I don't think you will enjoy Suva that much with small children, you may want something smaller with some expats around for company, check out Pacific Harbour, we love it

That area sounds wonderful. The biggest set back we are finding is trying to find a job for my husband. We aren't sure how much savings we will blow through if he tries to find a job once we are already there or if he should try and like up a possibly temporary one just until he can find something else. Do you know how hard it is to find a job in that area or what kind of skills are most looked for?

First he will have to apply for a work permit. The local paper should list a lot of jobs try Fiji Times or the Fiji Sun and see if they are on line. What kind of work does he qualify for??
