Hello! My husband and I are hoping to move to Finland this summer. We have four kids and would love any information about things that we may need to know. We are especially interested in information about schools (we don''t know how the public schools would handle English speaking kids). We also need information on finding housing. We''d love to hear any advice from someone who has done this!

" At least in Helsinki there are some international schools that teach in english, so that could be an option for you. The standard of teaching is high quality - far better than e.g. in England, especially at school level. For housing - check out for example the national newspaper Helsingin Sanomat. They are also in the web @ www.helsinginsanomat.fi It''s a very nice country, where things work too. Enjoy your time there. "

" Hi Vicki! I have been living in Helsinki for about 1 & 1/2 years now (I''m Australian). I don''t have any children, but I have friends who do. Their kids go to international schools where they speak English. They will also learn Finnish at these schools. When you arrive in Finland, you need to ""register"" where you will be living, with the Maistraatti. Here are some Finnish web sites which have info about moving to Finland: http://www.opas.vn.fi/english/ (info about schools here too) http://www.uvi.fi/englanti/ (the directorate of immigration) http://www.excess-baggage.com/customs/finland.asp (a guide to customs in finland) Hope this helps, and that you like Finland! Christina "

Did you and your husband move to Helsinki? How is it going? We are moving to Valkeakoski, (about 90 miles north of Helsinki), in Sept. and would love to hear from other expats who are now in Finland. It seems not many are using the Finnish forum these days.
Did you take a car with you? If so how did you transport it and your household goods. We'd love to hear about your experiences. How have your kids done in school there?
