My husband and I want to live in Finland. My husband is an IT professional (computer software developer/architect) who has done consulting work in the US, and is currently employed with a consulting firm in Germany. We are both American citizens.
We are looking into how to apply for a visa that would allow my husband to be self-employed (independent consultant) in Finland. What I have found is that we need to submit:
for a residence permit based on self-employment " A detailed description of the business idea and the firms main form of operation, together with an action plan " An estimate of the turnover (calculations for the next three years) " An account of the business premises (lease contract or equivalent to be annexed) " A certificate of the funds available for the firms operations " A certificate of professional ability as a self employed person or an entrepreneur " An account of the applicants sources of livelihood " An account of the employment effects of the business (number of personnel probably needed) " An extract from the trade register concerning the firm
Has anyone successfully applied for a self-employment visa as an independent consultant in IT? I'm curious how much of the above documentation is applicable to our case. Would a BS in Computer Science, and a resume with proven experience and references count as a certificate of professional ability? What exactly is that?
If anyone has some personal experience to share, we would love to hear about it!
