If there was one thing that you wish you had known about living in Finland before you arrived and started to settle in, what would it be?

The thing is that people don’t get used to foreigners and even public office making a fun of other languages. I think there are the same kinds of idiots everywhere. I believe that most of Finnish people are nice. So far I’ve met few persons who do not care of their vulgarity.

I am an American who would like to move to Finland. Any ideas about jobs? I'm a retired Paralegal and over age 50, female. Thanks.

I moved to Finland and have not been able to adjust to this country's bureaucratic system. Had lots of problems with KELA (the National Insurance system), I have still UK NI. Likely my work is still in London, which I carry out via remote access. I hear from fellow foreigners that It is quite difficult find work in Finland, if one doesn't speak fluent Finnish. The country is beautiful, but very cold during the winter. I found that Finns are not very friendly and not open like people in London. No small talk with Finns. :( Only good and very efficient are the TAX people, they have been extremely helpful and fix any problem on the spot. I got lots of help from the Finn Guild in London, and some advice from the Finnish Embassy in London.

HI. I am sorry that you have had bad experiences in Finland. Kela and taxation officees are in the same place (Salomonkatu). I know that at the moment it takes about two weeks to get Finnish ID number, but should not be any problem if you have proper documents. If there is something I can do for you kindly send e-mail marja.saviaro@returnticket.fi
With kind regards Marja

HI
You live in Järvenpää (population about 40 000) it is very small town to the person moving from London. So I understand your frustration. But still wondering - how much did you get information before moving to Finland. Regards Marja
