" Hello All, My name is Katie and I''m an American interested in living/working in France. I am seeking opportunities with my current employer, but it is going very slowly. I am currently in Global Human Resources but am interested in expanding my experience to include communications, marketing and the arts. I know that there are opportunities to teach/volunteer abroad... but I am more interested in opportunities that would be career-building. Any advice/suggestions you might have would be greatly appreciated! Merci et a bientot, Katie France "

I am a Graphic Artist/Art Director in the United States and I am considering relocating to Paris in 2002. I just wonder how difficult it is for an American to find employment and perhaps begin again overseas. Any information would be welcome. Thank you!!! - Christopher

" Hello I''m not sure if this helps much, but here goes. I found the provincial organizations in France very helpful, both private and public. This would not exclude Paris. I worked for one of them in France for two years, working in International Law and commuting between Clermond and Paris. The provinicial ministries sponsor and are highly-connected to private industry - but I apologize if you know all of this. Many of the provincial governments sponsor educational and employment schools, business advance degree programmes and placement services as well as the opportunity to work directly for their organisations AND so-called local offices (but these can be small or huge: Michelin, Air Inter or whatever). I''m aware that this is a bit vague but perhaps if you have not already explored this avenue, try it. At least consider talking to one of the ""presidents"" or ""ministers"" of provinicial government or culture - which of course again does not exclude the prefecture of Paris either. I''m referring to the sub-groupings into departtments ecc. My experience was that private industry, journalism and so forth were often surprisingly receptive to government connections. With the expansion of the Internet in France maybe you could research this ASPECT of it online. I''m afraid I don''t have any specific names or addresses that I think would assist you at this time. Most of my French contacts are in Paris and Lyons but they are not prospects and it sounds like you already have contacts. I do know two business people who run companies in Lyon but unless they had a special opening and you had a full work permit (I do not know your situation - no insult intended) I don''t think they could be sponsors or anything like that. Anyway, I''ve been much too long-winded, but I did want to pass on to you my own highly positive experience in several capacities with the various departments, provincial bureaus, and ministries of provincial France. " I am a recent graduate of International Law and French hoping to relocate to Lyon, France at the end of this year. I have already spent a year in France as part of my degree and am familiar with the language and the culture. I am currently on a <year-out> teaching exchange programme in Tokyo, JAPAN. I am looking for a company which could use my skills and provide me with training and career opportunities. Any advice or suggestions would be very welcome. Liz "

" Hello to all, I am currently living in the States, but considering starting my own small business in France. I am looking for any information to that regard, particularly financial and legal matters, and simply - where does one begin? Any insights or ideas would be most welcome. Merci! " Hello - I would seriously like to move overseas. France interests me very much. I have lived and worked there before. My needs are simple. I was hoping to get an informal position with a family or small company. I am a teacher, writer, lawyer, film editor, travel agent, biz whiz, nanny, and more. I don''t care for Mary Poppins agencies. I have top business and personal references. I adore teaching and caring for children. I am fluent in French, Italian, Spanish, English and am studying my 11th language and pursuing some internet satellite development projects but they take up very little of my time. It seems to me that an au pair or other arrangement might work, since money is not important to me at all. QUESTION: Can someone kindly advise me where to best advertise? Thanks! Thank you. AnotherDeborah@Yahoo.Com P.S. I already have a work visa. "

" Avid Editor Hello everybody, This is my first post on this site, so excuse any errors. I am looking to edit film and/or video in Paris. I have 5 years experience on all Avids and before that I produced TV spots in an ad agency in NYC. I''m working on my french language but I still feel much more comfortable speaking English. If anyone has a lead or has heard of anything please drop me an email-- totie@shot4shot.com merci "
