" Hello Everyone, Does anyone know an agency in Aix-en-Provence that is experienced in helping me file my French tax forms? Even though I''m American I get paid as if I am based in France and not like I''m on an expat assignment from the States. My French colleagues say that I not only get taxes taken out of my pay check throughout the year but I will need to pay about 1 month''s salary around April. Can anyone shed some light on this topic. Thanks, -Vic "

" Hi Vic, I''m not an expert at all, but like you I am also getting paid the way a French person would be. Unfortunately it is true what you''ve been told. In addition to all the social security, etc. that we have to pay throughout the year there are more taxes to pay. The best thing would be to save a certain amount each month so it''s not so painful when the bill arrives. I''ve been fortunate to have a French husband who knew to put us on a budget for that reason. The good news is there is a pretty significant credit from the United States to help you not to be taxed twice, though because I don''t know what your income is i can''t say how much this will affect you. My suggestion for finding an accountant would be to contact your nearest consulate. I don''t know if you are closer to MArseille or Nice so I''ll give you both. Marseille: 04 91 54 92 00 Nice: 04 93 88 89 55 They should have a list of professionals that can help you. Good luck! Diana "
