" Mark, I had the same problem 5 years ago. Now, we have been married for 3 and a half years! I started with a 3 month work visa that was purchased through, CIEE (www.ciee.org). Then when it expired, I got a student visa (which allows you to live in France and work as long as you are taking classes.) I took French classes at Alliance Francaise. They offer language classes year around. After you are registered for classes, the student visa is issued by the French Consulat. In my case I had to go back to the US for the student visa. So, to avoid going back and forth like I did, I recommend getting all of your paperwork straight before you leave Australia. This web site should be helpful: http://www.alliancefrancaisesydney.com.au/aahtml/home.htm I wish you all the luck and love in the world. You are in for a rough ride...but true love will pull you through. Bonne Chance! "
