Hi to both! First, welcome to expatexchange! It is so easy to meet people here - at least other expats. French people are a little harder for some reason, though with a French boyfriend that will help a lot.

So far we haven't had much with gatherings from the site. I tried to organize one once and nobody came. Then someone else tried to organize one and nobody came - not even the person organizing it! So I'm a little gun shy about that! However, if you two want to pick a time and a place I'll be there!

A great place to start in your hunt for people is WICE at 20 bd du Montparnasses - metro Duroc or Falguiere. They're open 9-5, mon. - fri. You don't have to join if you don't want, but it's a good place to start because you can pick up their catalog and see what they offer - they have bi-monthly catalogs that come out with lists of the classes (in english!) they offer. Also try their website at www.wice-paris.org to see what kinds of classes they offer. When you go there you can talk to any people hanging around and get info on other groups as well. See if the have a FUSAC lying around as well as a little black book called Insider's Guide. The Insider's Guide has a list of all the clubs and organizations for english speakers. If you can't find one, I have plenty at my office that you can have.

Give the consulate a call too. They have a Guide for US Citizens which includes a list of all the associations as well. There are tons so I'm sure there's something out there for you. I'm a bit attached to WICE because I used to Volunteer there before I could work. THey are all volunteer run and I swear volunteering you get to know a lot of people.

Oh, I forgot! There is a list of clubs on this site too. Most of them for Paris I added myself, but they come from the guides I mentioned above.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need any help. I'm here for any questions on the settling in process.

Diana

Hi,

I've been here in France for a couple of years and have recently gotten together with a small group of expats that actually gets together occasionally. However, now that I say this it will probably jinx it. If your interested or if you just want to make a friend leave a post.

I think that it is great that folks want to meet each other. I want to caution about meeting unknown people from the net. It can be dangerous. Please be careful as anyone can pretend to be whatever he/she chooses behind the keyboard. Public meeting places where other people congregate is good. I think that Diana gave a few examples of some organizations that one can go to. Some one else mentioned expat meetings. Bonne chance!
