After having trouble finding a plasterer to do some work in our french house - we eventually found someone who came and taught ud to do the work ourselves. He mentioned that there are college courses in building trades where a small 'wage' is paid covering living expenses. wondered if anyone had any experience of attending a course in France. Thanks - Helen

Dear danielt,
Helen's experience at NOT finding a plasterer is not uncommon. In the Languedoc where we have a vacation house, anyone with skill(s) in the building trades has more work than he or she can handle. It is difficult getting a tradesman quickly so I believe your training as a plasterer would be lucrative. All of this assumes, of course, that you are dependable and do quality work at a fair price. If you decide to move to France and are in the Languedoc give us a call, we have work for you.
Regards, Scott

Scott, where in the Languedoc is your house? I'm thinking about buying something near Nimes (see my earlier post). It's a senior village which sounds very attractive, near La Calmette. Barbara

Barbara,
Our house is in a very small village between Narbonne & Carcassonne, about 2 hours South of Nîmes. Although I'm not all that familiar with the area around Nîmes, what I have experienced was very nice--Pont du Gard and the village of Uzes are just a couple of the wonderful places in the area. They even have civilized bull fighting in Nîmes. The bull always walks away--embarassed maybe, but killed never. I mentioned on another thread that there is a UK publication called The French Property News that we subscribed to. we found it very useful when buying our house. It is directed towards UK Francophiles, but has lots of good info. The website is www.french-property-news.com. I suggest you check it out, perhaps there's something about senior villages that may help you make a decision. Regards, Scott
