Moving to S. France-looking for suggestions on locations. Need to be within 30 min-1 hour of an airport. Would like a traditional village feel (boulangeries, la patisserie, butcher, la cremerie.) . Interested in finding a detached home w/ good sized garden (yard). Clean town. Also interested in warm climate. Any suggestions on which areas to focus on or am I being unrealistic w/ my requirments?

There's only one question - how much money are you willing to spend? There are many villages in Aude and Herault that are near to the airports in Montpelier, Perpignan or Carcasonne and meet your other requirements. You probably won't find what you are looking for for less than 150000 Euros and probably more.

No matter where you go in france, you're going to find boulangeries, boucheries, patisseries, and marches very near you, well, maybe not so close if you really live in the country.

Anyway, normally, you will have a choice of each.

I live near Cannes, and the housing is very expensive. If you want a garden, you're going to have to pay more that 250K euros and it quickly goes up from there.

It is very charming here with many, many perched villages to choose from. You're never very far away from the old village feel and the airport is about 1/2 hour away (Nice).

I see from your profile you are from CA. We are too. We live about 30 minutes from Avignon. You didn't say whether you are interested in the Southeast or the Southwest. Can make a difference in pricing and, to some degree, weather. The other poster is right too. Budget will come into play when determining where to look.

Good luck. Let me know if I can be of any assistance.

They are right, it depends on what you want to spend. In Cotignac, good market, clean midevil village, lots of interesting things in the area, 1 hour to Nice or Marcelles, 500,000 Euros wold get you a nice place.

Try the real estate listing.

Hi

South of France is a big place !

You'll have to be close to the Med to have decent weather.

Property prices can be summarised as :

Further East = more expensive
Further North (i.e. away from the coast) = cheaper
Close to city commuters = more expensive

These days many small villages have no shops.

A medium cost area meeting your brief would be between Montpellier & Nimes in a medium sized village. Within 2 hrs you would have access to airports in Lyon, Marseille, Nimes, Montpellier, Carcassonne, Perpignan, Girona (Spain) and access by TGV to Paris in 3 hrs.

Lots of info about this area here : http://tlp.netfirms.com

Bonne chance

Peter
