I am an American married to a Frencman. I am 26 and we have a 10 month old daughter. I have been trying to find fellow "lonely" Americans since I moved here in 2008, and I finally found this site! If anyone out there is looking for an American friend, so am I :) Not to sound TOO desperate, haha.
Hope to hear from someone!

I am not exactly American, my husband and Grandson are, I am English but lived in California for 24 years. We live in Brittany. There is a Franco American organisation in Rennes so you might find one near you. If you just want English speakers I am sure you could find some where you are. We are everywhere!!!! If Lyon isn't too far away from you there is www.americanclublyon.org where you may find some young American women in the same boat as yourself.
Good luck. I know how you feel. Having been an expat twice!

Oh wow you're really far from us! I should have said "english speakers", not just Americans, oops :)
Lyon is about an hour North of us, so not really a convenient option. I was starting to lose hope of finding someone like me, but I have noticed 1 American guy, 1 Canadian guy and 1 British woman recently, so I know "you're" all out there somewhere.
Thank you for the website, I'll check that out :)

There is also an organisation in Grenoble, if that is any closer. Whilst Lyon may be too far for regular visits it may enable you to meet other Americans and that might live closer to you. It would be a start anyway.

Hi Daisy,
I'm an American married to a Frenchman as well, and not too far from you. I'm about a half hour south of Valence, and go there a few times a week. It isn't easy finding other expats in our area.... we are few and far between!! (;
I'd love to meet you, please feel free to email me if you like.

Hello!! I lived in Valence 2 years ago....I never found any Americans to talk to, and there is very little English language going on in that town, and they understand very little. It was quite a struggle for me...I DID join the Lyon group...we actually had a few holiday dinners with them, very nice. But yes, too far for the support you might need. I lived in Saint-Peray the last 6 months, and heard there were French lessons being given at the city hall there...that sort of thing might be a great connection... Personally, my ventures to Aix en Provence to meet up with expat or English groups was the most fulfilling. And I think if you join just a local, supportive mommy's group, you will find some support there, too!! Keep googling...Americans in France was good, also. Bon Chance!!
