Artist thinking of the south of France

I am currently learning French and have been researching cities around Nice (where's a good place?). I love the ocean and would like to have a calm slower lifestyle. I read that its hard for an American to find work in France though and also that it is difficult to extend the usual 90 day stay. I am an artist/potter and would love to paint and sell my wares locally, but I probably wouldn't be able to make enough to live off with that alone. Any thoughts or advise on this would be helpful.

lailarachelle, I have been researching ways to get an extended visa. One option is a Student Visa. Do you plan to study French language after your arrival in France? If so, you can get a student Visa. Yyou have to be enrolled in a regular French language class, but you do not have to attend class every day, or all day. That will get you a Visa for a year or two. You might be able to earn some extra money by teaching art classes on a freelance basis. Or, you could start an online business before you leave for France and earn a tidy amount each month working just a few hours a week. Lots of possibilities online! Bonne Chance!
