My wife and I, both under 65, are looking to retire to France, We are curious as to what other US retirees under 65 are doing for health insurance. Any and all opinions are welcome on things to be careful of and whether your coverage is for France only or includes time outside of France

You need to have insurance from the USA; if not, no visa to retire in France

My husband and I are also planning to retire to France from the US next year. I will have health insurance but he won't. Will he be able to purchase travelers health insurance and still get a visa? Can we join the French healthcare system?

Elgadocha, will a USA policy cover you while in France long-term? In other countries it is recommended that you purchase a local policy that covers expats.
Fransurma, good luck. I my choose o retire to France a well. Would you be willing to give me more information about the process? Retiring to countries like the UK or Ireland are now extremely difficult.
Also, have you found an insurance company yet? If so, any recommendations you have will be welcomed.
Regarding travel insurance, I was not aware that such policies would provide long-term coverage if you become a permanent resident rather than simply a tourist. Does anyone have information to the contrary?

Hi BigWorld! A USA policy does not cover you outside of the US, at least very well and not for very long. You would need to buy expat health insurance. I was recommended and used Global Insurance Net and was very happy with their service. They represent all of the expat health insurance companies from the US and have been very helpful with my claim. Best of luck! :)
Regards, Jan
