Staying Beyond 360 Days

Hi there-

My daughter and I have been living in Batumi since February and I wanted to see if anyone knows a way to extend our time here beyond 360 days. Or if we can simply hop across the Turkish border and return to Georgia for another year.

I do not work or volunteer in Georgia.

Any experience with extending a stay here would be appreciated. Thanks!

Just cross the border and back, can take a good few hours though.

I used to do this when i lived in tbilisi, train in the morning, over the border, and last train back that evening, was a long day.

That is advice for an EU citizen, though, i would expect it holds true for other 'western' nationalities.

Had you crossed the Turkish border by the end of August, that would have worked. That's what my husband, I and our daughter did - we live in Batumi, too and are all three Americans. Since the change of laws in September, once you cross the Georgian border to anywhere, upon return, you have three months only, thereafter. We filed for temporary residential visas. My husband has his and we're waiting for mine and then will file for one for our daughter.

Best of luck! Everything is different with this new government, in place.

Thanks so much for the information. I just saw this—sorry for the late reply! But your response was helpful.

All the best.

Too bad to hear they have changed their laws! Georgia was one of the few places with year-long visas upon arrival, and one of the main reasons we ended up their.

We left in February 2014, but it's good to know of the policy change. Enjoy your time in Batumi—we loved living there and do miss it.

Older thread now but I understand the Georgian government has changed its policy again and the 360 day visa is once again.

I hope to be there for a long stay starting in October.

Interesting about Georgia reinstating the year-long visa upon arrival. Good to know.
