A journalist working on an article for a popular finance publication is interested in connecting a few Americans over age 60 who have moved abroad after retiring from careers in the States and either found part-time jobs, started businesses or transformed their former careers into remote consulting gigs. We've talked with her about general trends in overseas retirement. She would also like to speak with a few retirees who fit this description. If you are interested, please e-mail me at betsy@expatexchange.com -- tell me a little about yourself and your job and how the journalist can reach you.
Thank you!

I am interested in retiring in Germany but have received conflicting information regarding residency. Some blogs claim you can get residency with proof of retirement income and insurance while others (including the German Embassy website) say that you need a German spouse, a job, or are enrolling in school. Is there anyone out there who received residency based on their retirement income alone? My spouse is not German but we have lived in Germany for several years and want to retire there.
Thanks!

Hallo, we took a one year retirement in Augsburg, Germany ( had friends there and we familiar with the area). We had no problems getting resident status for that time. We needed to show proof of insurance, income ( in our case Social security, some savings) a permanent address and bank account. All things we needed for our stay anyway. We are both citizens of America. Our stay was wonderful and are planing on a return trip soon.
