English Teacher Moving to Germany

Hello, I am an ESL English teacher with a BA, a TEFL-Diploma, and more than 6 years teaching abroad. I have done alot with accreditation, curriculum design, and teacher training. I REALLY want to move to Germany but as an American, it's difficult. I have looked at so many schools online and applied to them but so far nothing. I know that I can stay there legally for 90 days, but after that, if I don't find work, I will have to leave. Does anyone have any suggestions? I would prefer Colognes, Frankfurt am Main or any area in between. I have started learning German, because I know it's difficult to do anything there without it. I am open to all suggestions. Thanks so much!

Hi, I am an American living in Cologne for about 10yrs and would highly recommend it. I have a son who was in the International school here for a year or so and can say the are usually also looking for new teachers as the turnover rates are usually high for native speakers.

This school is relatively new in Cologne.

The lay of the land is that in Cologne there is only this Intl school with additionally an English school plus here and there a French, Italian and Spanish centric school or two. In Bonn there are 2 big international school and also one in Düsseldorf. Otherwise each big city in Germany usually has one or 2. In Berlin, there is even a public school (Kennedy School) that has a strong english curr. You only have to google international school and the city to find the websites which usually have a carrers page.

Another alt is Private english schools ... eg

Finally, you can google the american army bases which usually have a school for the military kids.

Keep up the German, but you should have good luck if you stay persistent. Just google possible combinations of what you are looking for until you find the right results. I put in 'teaching english cologne' and got a good response on what you are looking for.... Cheers.

No problem. Just remember GOOGLE is your best friend and with a little imagination you can usually find all there is to find online.

example search: 'Teaching english at a US army base in Germany' found this

http://teach.com/teachers/teaching-on-military-bases

or this

Remember, that there are many international schools in Germany and you can check them all.
