I am an American moving to the Frankfurt am Main area to retire.
Is it possible to receive English language TV like BBC, CNN, NBC, etc? Are there any TV packages available in Germany that cater to Americans?
Who has experience with receiving Social Security benefits? Is it possible to have the SS payments deposited into a German bank account?

Hello Vernard,
I am an Peruvian-American living in Berlin. I suggest for you to go to your SS Office and ask this question. I know of a friend that she receives her money, in Lima-Peru, but I not sure if it possible in Germany. I have a private pension PERA and I do not receive SS until the year 2020. We have cable packages and have to pay extra for it. I see the news in English -CNN, BBC, Aljazeera, Euronews, etc. My plan allows me to see English, Italian and Spanish channels but I did not figure out how to set it up. -Instructions are in German- which I do not speck yet.
Please do not count with open an account right away. First you need to register with the Burgeramt? This is an office similar to our City Hall and it takes 3 months before you can get an appointment!
If you do have more questions, I will be happy to answers.
Welcome to Germany!

I have no relevant experience in Germany but I can tell you that if you can access Youtube, you will find many US channels to view. Also, Netflix may be available on a subscription basis although its not the US version so selections are more limited.

As for Social Security, I fell certain that you can have your benefits deposited by the SSA directly to a German Bank. Just be sure to research whether your benefits might be taxable by Germany

You should be able to direct deposit your SS benefits but check with the US Embassy in Berlin.

Also, I assume most US TV is available in Germany at a price. If you are on a limited budget, consider getting a VPN and watching TV from your computer. Otherwise, you may get stuck with CNN International instead of CNN US. I do't want to spend more than I can so I watch a lot of news on YouTube 6-8 hours after its live in US.
