" Hi everyone! I''m a greek-american whose been living in Thessaloniki since April 2000. Even though I do speak greek fluently and my background is greek, I''m still having a hard time adjusting to life here and making friends. Anyone in Thessaloniki looking for fellow americans? having similar problems? I would love to hear from you :) "

I'm actually a Greek-"Canadian" living in Thessaloniki but I figure that's close enough. How is it that you moved over here? Have things gotten better for you since you posted the message. Feel free to email me at smarinakis@aol.com

I have a question I am contacting you from a TV show in the USA. Trying to find interesting stories about people who are currently living abroad both permanently and temporarily. They also should be doing something signifigantly different from what they did in their country of origin. Some examples are a Lawyer turned artist etc... We are shooting a story in Turkey and one other one possibly in Azerbaýjan or Turkmenýstan. I would like to find more stories in this region, Greece inlcuded. Might I ask why you moved to this area, perhaps your story would fit. If not perhaps you know of other people. Please e-mail me at nneurath@wellergrossman.com

Hi Evi,

I'm also greek-american, and as of Sept 2001, I now live in Thessaloniki also. I was born in Greece, but grew up in NY, now live here, but also having a tough time. It was great reading your message, just knowing I'm not the only one... I thought I was just being homesick at first, so would really like contact with other Americans living anywhere in Greece, but especially here in Thessaloniki. If you'd like to write me, my email is priggipisa@yahoo.com. This goes for anyone else in Greece as well.

I'm also an American just relocated here as administrator of US school and see that other Americans are in Thessaloniki ... would love to hear from some - me and my New York cat get tired of no conversation! It is October 2004 - maybe those of you who wrote in 2001 already went back! Would like to hear about any organizations also - when I lived in Milan I met so many people through the Professional Women's Association but they don't seem to have things like that here... my email is chconley2000@yahoo.com

That's pretty bad if after living here since 2000 and speaking Greek fluently you still have problems adjusting! I just moved here this month and don't speak it fluently but thought that would all change once I got settled in... although I have this feeling it won't so that's why I got on this website! Feel free to drop me an email and tell me more about your life here - mine is pretty boring only work and getting lost everywhere I drive...
I work for State University of New York - in partnership with New York College. chconley2000@yahoo.com
