" Does anybody know a source of international comparisons to Guatemala. I am an expat and strongly feeling that in our company we are underpaid. Nevertheless Headquarter ""believes"" in official inflation and cost of living data. "

" Alfred, Try speaking to the American or British Embassy personnel - they usually have comparison tables made up on a 3 or 6 monthly to ensure that their wage level is kept up. Everyone knows that the inflation figures are way out of sync in Guatemala - I''m an expat with 7 years here getting poorer every day. Good luck mate, Steve "

Hello Steve, I am interested in whether Guatemala is a cheap place to live - compared to Ajijic, Mexico, where I am currently living and working as a realtor. Do you think it is possible to live on a monthly income of $700 US? Without forgoing eating out a couple of times a week and wining and dining friends at home? In Antigua? Penachel?
Thanks for you advice.
Hilary

I went to visit my mother -in -law a couple of moths ago in guatemala . She lives in Baja Verapaz . I spent
the total of $100 u.s. in 10 days while I was there . I went out to eat about 3 times there and about twice in the capital . I also bought clothes, shoes , tolietries, etc.

I'm guessing you didn't pay rent, pay for internet, have any medical needs or need to travel any where in reasonable comfort.

or die, leaving the rest of us expats to pay for your final needs. Everything I here is that Mexico is far cheaper than Guatemala as far as living expenses go. This can change very quickly depending on the exchange rate and while the rate of $ vs. peso is favorable for the $ right now, there are no guarantees that this will remain true for the immediate future.
