My husband, son, and I are considering a job-related move to Guatemala City in mid-2005. We have lived in Latin America before and are fluent in Spanish. We are looking forward to the move as we have very fond memories of our previous years abroad. We would like to hear from expats living in Guatemala City with teenage children regarding what life is like for teenagers there. For example, what the American school is like, after-school and weekend activities, how teenagers spend their school vacations, etc.

Thank you very much in advance for your replies! Please address them to this forum.

I practically "grew up" in Guatemala, although have no children, am familiar with the "American" School, it is up on km. 17 Carretera El Salvador and called the "Maya School", very expensive and very excellent(Ex Pat kids there bus the 120km. RT from Antigua daily)
. A friend of mine, Valerie Randall (Val has no kids either) runs a Bar called "William Shakespeare Pub" frequented on Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights when she bartends since the early 1980's, by the long term American Ex Pats and her English speaking bartenders and customers on other nights include many bi lingual alumni of Maya School and other private High schools. 13 Calle y 1a Ave, Zona 10, local 5, Torre Santa Clara II, Guatemala City (apuesto Holiday Inn) T.
