Hello,
We are thinking about relocating to Guatemala City. We are a family of four with two small daughters. We have been to Guate before but only as tourists. Have a couple questions and hope someone can help us. We currently live in Houston and wonder how convenient or necessary it is to ship our belongings from here. Is shipping from the US affordable? Is it convenient (because of customs or legal issues)? Is there different options? How do prices of housewares compare to the US?
Please help!

On the houseware prices: they are the same and in some cases about 15% higher. The Capital has the best prices and selection at stores like Cemaco, Price Smart, Simans, Importadora (FPK), Sears, Hiper Pais, Home Center and La Curacao. A few things that are hard to find: Oven Thermometer, fine micro plane (for grating). Just about everything else is here. Careful when you shop for a stove, many of them do not have a broiler and q thermostat on the oven, so if you need constant heat for baking and roasts, really check it out before buying. Gas is the most popular.

Good Luck!
