Going back to Guatemala?

Hello!

I am a 25 year old Canadian who was born in Guatemala City and lived there until I was 5 and a half years old (I am therefore also Guatemalan by birth).

My parents owned a business in Guatemala and after they divorced my mom and I moved to Europe while my dad stayed in Guatemala for another ten years.

I have a BA in Politics/Business and have worked for almost four years in a Communications/Marketing function at an International School in Switzerland.

I speak three languages fluently: French, English and Spanish.

The reason why I am giving you all of these details is that I have very fond memories of my life in Guatemala and I have always dreamed of one day returning.

However, I remember that Guatemala City was quite unsafe when we lived there in the 80s (we had cars stolen and were held up at gunpoint as our house was robbed).

With my dual nationality, languages and experiences, do you think that I could find work in Guatemala? How is it living there now?

Thank you for your advice!

Like any big city there will be crime, also there are nieborhoods you would want to stay clear of like any big city.I personally have spent alot of time in the city and have never had a problem, you must be awhere of your surroundings. I own a house in San Lucas which is about 15 minutes out of the city and I love it there, the city is too noisy for my taste, but that is any big city, Guatemala needs people like you to come back and change what is wrong with it.
I am an American and my wife is from Guatemala but moved to the U.S. when she was 17
We will be moving there next year and we can't wait. I would say with your education and the fact that you speak English that you will be able to find a good job.
Good luck to you and God Bless
