Currently I have a ATT Galaxy SIII smartphone, and was wondering what is best for me when down there for 30 days.
I have the unlock codes, and was wondering what to do, unlock before i come down , and can i use my phone there, ?
What is the most economical way to get online when down there, for my laptop, is there prepay, that is reasonable, or is there plenty of wifi hotspots, are they free?
Suggestions from knowledgeable people is greatly appreciated, many thanks. Patrick

I use here the same Samsung used in Costa Rica and Panama. I have no trouble finding wIfI spots for my Kindle. Many businesses (restaurants, malls, etc.) have wifi and it is usually part of the rent of an apartment or hotel room. I rarely have a problem with an ATM card, just make sure you do not bend it. It will take days to get a new one from the States, and it may have to go through your US mailing address. I have learned the hard way to carry cards in a small metal case.

Wow , very little info, thanks DRthomas.
I hear about Tiago, is it, prepaid USB Card but is pricey, was wondering about unlocking my Galaxy SIII phone , currently with ATT, or not?
How do you handle this, please don't allow me to go astray, I have a habit of always learning things the hard way, please help me not do this.

Hi, I bring phones over from the states all the time. It doesn't matter if you unlock here in guate or over where you are now. Once unlocked you can go to claro or tigo and get a prepaid sim card to put in your phone and that's it that will be yours to use with a private number for as long as your here then you can recharge at any store that has the claro or tigo logo. As far as internet we have the prepaid tigo movil usb. U have the option to pay q200 to buy it outright and the give you a month of free internet or you can do a monthly payment plan for the 200. There's different prices for recharging its 4gb for q200 or 1gb for q150 there there's smaller ones like 1 day usage. You recharge it just like the phone at any store with a tigo logo.

kkjc1206 with the Tigo, does the USB use a phone# and when you say buy for Q200 and get a month of free internet. Is there a limit on the number of Gigs you can use in that month?

I use my Galaxy S3 from Verizon here in Guate all the time with a Tigo SIM card. Starting with the S3s, all the Galaxy phones are dual-band, both GSM (takes SIM cards) and CDMA.
You should be able to use yours. I, did, however have to go into the setting and switch to the Global mode...
Also remember, it won't be 4G or even 3G.
